Well Child Appointments
Routine well child care is a preventative service and is a covered benefit under most insurance plans. A well visit includes a physical exam, immunization update, review of growth and development, and education on topics such as nutrition, physical fitness, and safety. Any abnormal findings are addressed in addition to ongoing care issues for chronic conditions.
We recommend well child visits according to the American Academy of Pediatrics schedule:
- 24-48 hours following hospital discharge
- 1 week
- 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 24 and 30 months
- Annually from 3 to 21
A well child visit is defined as a routine visit to your provider for: (See Well-Child Care: A Check-Up for Success)

- Updated immunizations
- Review of growth and development
- Investigating any abnormal finding to determine need for intervention
- Discussing health, safety, nutrition, and physical fitness as appropriate for age
- Educating as needed regarding ongoing care for chronic conditions such as asthma, ADHD/ADD, diabetes, etc
